Blinding people with science

June 8, 2011

Hello! Once again I’m here to assure you that I’m still alive. I’ve been drawing scientists! Here’s one:

Newton

Can you guess who it is? (No peeking!) I’ve also been drawing other scientists, along with a giant and a dwarf, all for a new planetarium show at the Centre for Life in Newcastle.

World Heritage Day

March 8, 2011

Recently, I’ve been working on some artwork for World Heritage Day on 18 April 2011. There are currently events being organised at each of the five sites in Scotland.
St Kilda
Orkney
New Lanark
Edinburgh
The Antonine Wall
Personally, I like Orkney the best. More to come!

Wibble

February 8, 2011

Hello! It may well seem to you like I forget about this blog for long stretches at a time, but in reality I am just carefully building up the excitement and tension, before whalloping you with another piece of mind-boggling information.

I know, of course, that we’re already well into February, but I shall tell you about my new year’s resolutions anyways. This year they’re all in your favour! I shall be bringing you (is the plan…) a freebie a month. I failed in January, but ‘coz we’re flexible ‘n stuff, we’ll just extend this to January 2012! Aren’t you thrilled? You must be thrilled!

So, without further ado, here’s the first one.

Aside from that, here’s a doodle.

I own a Moleskine sketchbook now, which is what happens when you send non-cheapskates on errands to buy sketchbooks. Might do that more often.

Some early Christmas presents

December 12, 2010

Well, that’s one down, two to go before we can all descend into home-Christmas madness. In celebration of todays quite happy Magpie Market, here’s some gift tags. Print’em, cut’em out and hang’em on stuff!

Freebie time!

Also downloadable as a handy sheet of 12 tags.

Happy Winter!

I’m still alive!

December 5, 2010

The last couple of months have been taking up entirely by moving madness and creative craziness, and I’m only slowly getting re-acquainted with the wonders of the interweb, and of course I can’t help noticing that it’s high-time for some Christmas shopping!

Fortunately there are quite a few things happening, should you still happen to find yourself a monster or two short.

Flux are still selling my Minimonster Wheat Bags, of course, but now the recently opened Artisans Emporium up in Bruntsfield have some of my other monsters as well as Kids’ T-shirts on offer.

All of these and more will also be available at the forthcoming Magpie Market,
on Sunday 12 December,
12-5pm at the Lot, 4-6 Grassmarket, Edinburgh,

as well as the Out Of the Blue Christmas Market
on Saturday, 18 December, 11-5pm,
The Drill Hall, 36 Dalmeny Street, Edinburgh.

In addition, some of my work will also be included in the Craft Reactor Members Showcase Exhibition, which will be on from 16 – 22 December at the Patriothall Gallery, 1D Patriothall, off Hamilton Place, Stockbridge, Edinburgh, EH3 5AY.

So, lots to do! Maybe see you there!

Freebies!

Bookplate, pasted
Ooooh… I like me a nice bookplate. I don’t know why it’s never so far ocurred to me to come up with my own (I’ve always stuck to stickers or just handwriting my name in the book), but when I saw a link to this nice little tutorial on how to paste a bookplate into a book on the Craft: Blog, I dropped everything and got my pens out.

So here’s the result. And of course I’m happy to share the love, so feel free to downloade them singly or ready to print as a sheet of nine (about 18x25cm, so should go on either letter or A4 size paper).

The Naughty Monsters in the Sky

September 15, 2010

crayons-1cols
At the moment I’m working on some illustrations for The Centre for Life in Newcastle. They’re going to be part of a new planetarium show for 3-5 year olds – can’t wait to see it! I’m really chuffed to be involved with this, and am really enjoying spending some time as a ‘full time illustrator’. It’s interesting to see a biggish job like this take shape and having to keep track of what I’m doing like a grown-up.

Magpie Market 12 September 2010

September 9, 2010

On Sunday, there’ll be fun and games (and, in my case, also some monsters) to be had at the Lot in the Grassmarket, at the Magpie Arts & Design Fair.

I’ll be sharing with Madeleine Shepherd (of knitted tentacle fame) who makes amazing stuff out of felt and yarn and other stuff too.

So, as always, come along and bring all your friends!

A little reminder

A little reminder

The Craft Reactor Launch evening will be going down on Tuesday 31 August 2010 at the Glasite Meeting House, 33 Barony Street, Edinburgh. If you’re a crafter and want to know what it’s all about, come along. There’ll be gimmicky biccies and everything!

Fly me to the moon, I need a snack

August 26, 2010

Moon cookie!

Work has begun on the aforementioned gig for the planetarium show. Not much so far, just a rough sketch, but I’m quite pleased with it.

My other baby, Craft Reactor, will hold a launch event next Tuesday, 31 August 2010, at the Glasite Meeting House in Barony Street. If you’re wondering what it’s all about, come along from 6pm. There will be cake. ‘Nuff said.
